I’m get so excited every time you have Ethan on. I work in sports. I love when sports and politics intersect, which is all the goddamn time! I always hear people complaining about “bringing politics into sports” and I usually roll my eyes because I know that’s sports and politics, especially internationally, are forever intertwined.
As a Gentile (“Recovering Catholic” might be more accurate), I always appreciate the sources you share. Anti-semitism has always seemed pointless to me, but that doesn’t give me license to tune out from it. So thank you. 🙏 And I love Eli Lake--his pod is one of my favorites.
The NHL hired a diversity officer post-GF who could easily be a high priestess at your local Church of Intersectionality. I don’t care about trans hockey leagues of people who are choosing who to play with, and I don’t have an opinion really on the NHL sending out a tweet about it. But I’ve got to admit, I’ve watched less hockey in the aftermath of the follow-up tweet, just because I’m familiar with that language, and I know it’s simply tribal signaling, and that as Ethan said, you couldn’t find a dozen active players that would agree with the sentiment.
Columbine makes me furious because that was the beginning of the “wah wah bullied” defense of the sociopathic violent male. We should have never ever fallen for it.
If I have one takeaway, it’s that the term BIPOC could, and maybe should, be re-appropriated to refer to Black and/or Indigenous People Of Chutzpah... at least until this challenging question is resolved.
