Guys you CANNOT just call an episode “the breakup episode,” I thought you were killing the pod and I almost started crying in the middle of a sushi restaurant.

Panicked at that title, but then realized the breakup you must be speaking of and let out a dry, harrowing laugh.

I am zero percent surprised that without MW’s supervision, Michael & Kmele forgot that tomorrow is the second Sunday of the month.

Ben Franklin was absolutely a greater political troll than Elon Musk.

There’s evidence that he spawned the legend of the Jersey Devil in order to troll a rival. He was a huge satirist.

Oh yeah. Franklin was an all-timer. Witty, sharp-tongued, and vicious. I was surprised neither of them were aware of this.

I just read the Silence Dogood Letters written by him in secret. He wrote them at 16 and people genuinely thought it was an wise old politician. He wrote better as a teenager than most ever will.

The guy was a hyper-literate sarcastic SOB who fought for individual liberty and spent his golden years in Europe drinking and fucking. You'd think Moynihan would have a greater appreciation for his game.

One of my superiors at work, not a Trump fan, had a similar observation about Patel. As far as Trump’s appointees go, he seems to have been the one who has actually grown into the role and thus far not proven his detractors right. He seems to be at least trying to serious and do his job, grading on the curve of people in the Trump orbit.

First off, best wishes and a speedy recovery to Mr. Welch. Second, the fan who said he felt discriminated against because of the falling concrete at Dodgers Stadium was joking. He said it because he's a Yankee fan and it hit him instead of a Dodgers fan. And, if you see the size of the piece that hit him, you'd let him make any jokes he wants. The guy's lucky to be alive. That stadium is a menace.

Well you certainly have a captive audience as I lay here the next few days recovering from sinus surgery, and unfortunately couldn't get anything stronger than Vicodin so I'll remain relatively clean headed.

The MAGA dis/regard of Ukraine is bonkers to witness in my circle of acquaintances. Three in particular are posting things about how they're not warmongers and literally everyone debating them is. Warmonger...literally one's word to use to describe someone expressing support for the Ukrainian drone raid.

Yet their God is proposing a trillion-dollar defense budget with billion dollar fighter programs numerically named for Trump. And making economic moves on China that could 100% turn into a shooting war or at least a hot cold war with them.

They are just a house of cards.

You had me until “making economic moves on China”.

I don’t even know where to start. Cyberattacks, surveillance programs, secret police, IP theft and other forms of blatant, consistent corporate espionage, raiding of western corporate headquarters, Canadian hostage-taking, concentration camping their Muslim population…again, where to begin in demonstrating how misguided it is to blame tariff warring for the start of actual, hot warring? Taiwan wish you cared as much about them as you pretend to care about that drunken, corrupt shithole that is Ukraine. At least Taiwan has their shit together and isn’t busy funneling all of their wealth into the dachas of 5-10 oligarchs.

A couple of months ago, after the Vance/Zelensky dustup, Moynihan stridently argued for why the Ukrainian government’s conscription of its populace is justifiable in that they 1) have to do it and 2) that they care more about the citizens they are conscripting than Russia does.

Whether or not one agrees with that argument, given what I know about the level of conscription taking place, it still seems strange (to me) for him to continue to portray the average Ukrainian fighter as a vengeance-seeking patriot and compare him to the average Russian soldier “being told he can’t go to college and sent to the meat grinder.” It strikes me that anyone being forced to fight against their will would be roughly equally (un)patriotic.

I would be very interested in hearing the guys discuss their views on conscription, both in general and regarding Ukraine. My interest in this discussion has been particularly piqued by Matt making a couple of strong principled arguments against US conscription / SS recently, which went about as unquestioned as Michael’s defense of Ukraine’s draft. (And IIRC, about a year ago, Matt also made a surprising comment about how he might support a US draft if we were being invaded.)

Not trying to imply any hypocrisy here, but it sounds like there may just be some interesting nuances in their views on this topic that I may be missing!
