If it wasn't for Brooklyn Tech I literally would not exist: My son of immigrants father probably would've stayed running the family's candy & stationery store that they lived above in Marine Park, but graduating from Brooklyn Tech made it possible for him to get into and attend Georgia Tech on the G.I. bill after both his parents died while he was still a teenager. Once down south he met and soon married my mom, a librarian and one of the few women on the then all-male campus.
Needless to say the idea of doing away with NYC's extraordinary magnet schools is deeply troubling to my family and countless others; the list of students without means, like my dad, whose lives were transformed by these places is long and it includes some of the greatest minds that the country has ever known
Gentlemen, I am absolutely perplexed that you have forgotten PRESIDENT Biden’s career enduring the community pool in Scranton stayed free of the Scourge that was Cornpop.
For those interested in news from Israel, Amit Segal (who is frequently on Dan Senor's Call Me Back podcast, that I plugged in Matt's survey of news sources) has a daily newsletter that is worth reading
The stuff on The Shah, too, is important. The things that the IRGC in the intervening years are all a logical reaction to 1953.
And how dare you find things that show the UK might have had a lot more to do with it than the US. Kermit Roosevelt was there and stuff. BP doesn’t stand for British Petroleum.
Thanks for another great episode. I recently relocated from a progressive shit-hole in Vermont to Connecticut; the water is fine! We'd love to have all you New Yorkers join us.
On the other hand, why would a Mamdani mayorship be the thing to waken people to the consequences of these deeply flawed policies when nothing else has?
Real failures-of-socialism-will-wake-people-to-the-horrors-of-socialism has never been tried?
Heard a few liberal friends repeat last November, "we'll get the country we deserve." It's funny, now my right wing friends (and family) are saying the same about NYC.
There is a certain kind of glee in watching the other team fail spectacularly. Makes me wonder if some people are happier, or at least more invested, when their party isn't in charge.
Major caveats obviously, but this may be Mamdani's high-water moment. It's all possibilities and hopeful promises right now. He's going to have heavy opposing fire trained on him the next four months and I wouldn't be shocked if one or more of his staffers offer infelicitous thoughts on Israel and other topics that will (hopefully) also turn voters off.
If he does win, it doesn't seem like he'll ride in on a majority wave and will quickly find governing isn't as groovy as making TikToks and friendly campaign appearances. His base will get frustrated that utopia hasn't been achieved in six months and everyone else will just be frustrated. (And poorer.)
EDIT:
Reading that again, I just realized it's similar to what people said about Trump ten years ago, so NYers may be in for a long and bumpy ride.
(This does not, of course, apply to our boys, who are always welcome in the swamplands. However, the rest of your statesmen need to bugger off until they can learn to change lanes properly, and also to occasionally STFU about how much better NYC is than everywhere else even though they dumped it for us.)
Teeny tiny fact check on broker fees…starting June 11th landlords, not tenants, have to pay the fees because the landlords have hired the brokers (or choose to) not the tenant. Now, as someone who signed a lease on June 11th and was negged into paying the fee myself: when I brought up the changing law, the response was “it’s not the 11th, there’s a big fight, and it’s gonna be so confusing anyway!!!” This came up because I was asked to sign a piece of paper that said “NOT A CONTRACT” at the top (lmao) stating the woman I was working with was MY broker representing my, the tenant’s, rights. I saved myself about 600$ by asking for the fee to equal a month of rent instead of the typical 10% of annual rent.
Now, this lady has busted her butt for me, made moving literally so easy it seems like a scam, and got me slotted into the one bedroom of my dreams directly across from my gym and five blocks from church. She DESERVES that money, I just didn’t want to pay it 😌 but I wasn’t willing to walk away or hard negotiate the unlikeness they’d find as good a new tenant as me 💅🏻 anyway house warming party to end the summer mark your calendars
I regret to inform Moynihan that not only is hot piss smell allowed in other places but in Portland there's a city ordinance that says all new construction is required to have a homeless man come piss on it before the final inspection is signed off.

Someone seems a little jealous of the lifestyle of Spain.

That is a "store" where my in-laws have to cash in their ration card for food in Cuba.

Matt you’re always welcome to crash with me in northern Alaska until things blow over
Ditto for Idaho. I'll even forgive Matt's jab at Boise a few episodes back!
Love Boise!
"If I can make it there, they'll take it all to share. It's full of Jews - New York. NEW YORK!"
I love that song
“I don’t think lesbians will ever be happy” is an all-timer. It’s funny because it’s (mostly) true.

Best thing to do with Zohran is just to let him win and watch him crash and burn.

Oh it 1,000% won’t, the satisfaction will be mine alone, as usual.

He is crashing and burning!
I agree with you and Nika that no one will change their mind, I've given up on that.
Re: Cuomo
You can always count on progressives to find their morals the nano-second it doing so will no longer hamper their quest for unfettered power.
Cuomo’s sex-pest-ary and grandma killing was *totally overblown* people…oh wait, he’s irrelevant now? Yeah, fuck that guy!

On behalf of Florida I declare that we are closing the border to Yankee refugees. I-95 is bad enough. Go settle in Nebraska.

Trump's chased out a lot of the Canadians, so you've got that going for you.
