Have you gents learned nothing from your BFF, Megyn Kelly?!? How can you boost your ratings and induce partisan rage if you keep having intelligent guests with whom you can politely disagree & have a thoughtful discussion?

You're on a roll!

Why is Substack so determined to make their app experience increasingly worse?

Magic Wade's avatar

is this since they moved to posting videos? If I go to expand a comment, it takes me to the screen with the white background but then when I hit the back button, it takes me to my Substack newsletter landing page. I’m having trouble posting comments also. This is why I primarily spend time in the chat now instead of commenting on videos.

Honestly I wanted to comment this but I can’t comment since they made changes, only reply to other comments. This is giving me rage.

Been a lot of good guests the last few days. Had no idea who this woman was since I don't watch cable news (not having cable helps) but I thought it was a great show.

I didn't realize she was a Fox News person either but recently discovered the Raging Moderates podcast and appreciate the perspective. It's worth cherry picking some of those episodes based on guest/topic.

They aren’t always as moderate as they claim to be, but they are entertaining. She’s great!

Victor's avatar

Same, never knew her and the next day I’m visiting my dad and Fox News is on and I see one person on The Five getting dog piled by the other hosts and put it all together. Weird how that works sometimes.

That highbrow compliment is the closest I've ever come to unsubscribing.

We are high brow? I beg to differ! We are capable of high brow conversations, but will choose low brow humor and memes over intellectualism every time, and thank God for that.

Cypresse's avatar

I have a different take. It's a low brow pod for high brow people.

But it doesn't get much more low brow than Moynihan of course.

Our Representative, Chrissy Houlihan (PA-06), sent out a standard post election fundraising letter the day after the elections. She is relatively moderate for a Dem, but is generally a straight line party voter (like almost everyone in congress) She wrote about the success the Dems had mentioning NJ and VA. Mamdani's win was very obviously missing from the missive. My district is a swing district in SE PA.

I thought this was great and that Jessica is a refreshing reminder that most folks on the left are like her (normal) and not like the people that get served to me on Twitter all day (fully unhinged)

Blooshier's avatar

“Highbrow” clearly Jessica has not listened to the first few years of this podcast.

another great pod! love to hear the healthy and respectful disagreement and even more all the common ground you can find with others when everyone is treated like human beings instead of "literally Hitler" or "literally Stalin". Fif is certainly high brow in that regard and nicely contrasts the frequent (and excellent) low brow humor 👏

Wohhh, you mention you'll invite her 1 sec, and the next sec, boom!

Bookings have been off the chain recently. Mojica, you da man! Although I'm sure Kmele played a role here.

OK Steele's avatar

It's funny Kmele mentioned John Lovitz.

I was thinking I can't be the first to notice that Pod Save America has to have the highest percentage of hosts with names similar to or the same as Jewish comedians from the 90's. Truly remarkable.

Philip Pomerantz's avatar

Jon Favreau (the actor) and Jon Lovitz are funny. Jon Favreau (Pod bro) and Jon Lovett (pod bro) aren't

Victor's avatar

Fuck I’ve been so confused this whole time. Thanks for mapping that out.

I remember Jessica from the Red Eye days long ago. Great interview.

As a libertarian, I’ve got to ask: why is SNAP a federal program? And please, the whole trope of finding someone in a rural state taking care of their grandbabies. There are a couple of people in my wife’s family on that program who are just absolute pieces of shit who refuse to get a job, and they do so knowing they’ll be fed by the government. $38T in debt, something’s gotta give eventually…

Yay Cleveland shoutout ❤️

Friend of the Pod Peter Meijer was interviewed by Johan Goldberg and Kevin Williamson on the Remnant podcast. He was defending (in a fashion) the tariffs and industrial policy. But he did say Reason magazine was one of his favorites.

He is dead to me.

Jonathan Rogers's avatar

Did you see his flowing ginger locks?

Craig Mahoney's avatar

I am once again begging writers, journalists, and political operatives who decide get jobs in broadcasting to drop a few hundred bucks on voice/speech lessons. (Not the Fifth guys, though. Mostly. Definitely not Welch.)

On a related note, PLEASE don't ever play an audio clip of AOC that long again.

Unless it’s muted

I love how she called her voice "gravelly", like she is some kind of lounge singer.

Vocal fry is intolerable for a certain segment of listeners. It annoys me, but not enough to stop listening to a good conversation.

55Kevy's avatar

Amen. So many, especially younger, people have such irritating voices. I can't listen to Megan McCain's pod strictly due to her voice.

NTC's avatar

Like moynihans girl, Olivia reingold. Even if she said something brilliant, she sounds like a fucking moron. Will not listen to her. Cannot.

Cypresse's avatar

That Gen Z affect is so annoying, but it makes me wonder if I sound old timey to a 20-year-old. Like, do I sound to the yoots the way black and white film stars sound to my ear now? Fascinating to consider.

NTC's avatar

We probably sound like Jimmy Stewart to them

Victor's avatar

I bet you really love Sam Altman

Mark S's avatar

I honestly wouldn't have given any thought to her voice if she hadn't brought it up herself. Some people just talk that way.

Maybe you aren't wrong, broadly, as far as advice to TV/radio/podcast personalities goes. But I personally didn't see anything that needed to be improved with "lessons" here.
