Dang I must have missed it by minutes. Listened on Substack's app. NOT A FAN :-) (at least I finally discovered I CAN make the video window go off screen if I swipe with enough anger and vigor, so there's that.)
That said, there SEEMS to be some sort of story there, but who knows.
I respected that time period. Didnt keep up with Fischer but did enjoy some of his interviews, and he turned me onto the book St Mary's Is Dead, which I enjoyed.
Thank you for sharing, I'd never seen this. Far as I can tell (from this) he left on good terms. He didn't need to say so many nice things and it appeared pretty heart-felt.
It's fucking nonsensical that Moynihan's point re Kanye is that he doesn't know a single mentally ill person who goes on about Jews. My God man, spend some time visiting a psych unit instead of lazily referencing people you know. I had to do regular visits to locked facilities as a part of my job for a couple of years. Jews Control Everything is like the number two conspiracy theory for those who live in crazy town.
(Number one conspiracy theory is of course "the government is watching me/I've got things inside of me because of the government")
Matt Welch's favorite writer Freddie deBoer also writes about this. Anyway, I don't care either way if anyone wants to forgive Kanye or whatever. It's just embarrassing whenever people like Moynihan insist that craziness doesn't encourage anti-semitism. Jews have been blamed for everything for as long as there have been Jews to blame. Why in the world is it such a big leap from recognizing that fact to understanding that the mentally ill will also default to what is literally the world's oldest conspiracy theory?
You're underplaying Ana Kasparian’s stupidity about Iran. The public statements by Mossad on X she was referring to are by commentary and parody accounts. The actual Mossad extremely rarely makes actual statements and doesn't do it on X.
I do actually admire her courage for rounding on the extreme elements in her camp (albeit very very belatedly), she caught a lot of flak for it and it can't have been fun at all.
That being said, she's not a particularly deep thinker and generally reverts to her frantic tribal hammer hunting a nail stance, particularly when exercised. I used to watch TYT a good 15/16 years ago and even back when I agreed with them on a lot more that much was clear.
”The merging of the Twitti…Twitta…Twittersphere or X-a-sphere…? What do you call it now?”
The platform is called X, and it has been since 2023. Can we adapt to this new reality? It’s not like Elon Musk put his name on the Kennedy Center. Anyway, you could just say: Social media.
When will see a Members Only miniseries, ‘The Influencers’ — episodes 1-5: The Nick Shirley Story with guest Abby Phillip (leave the “s” off for “Shirley you can’t be serious”)? Has Moynihan scrapped his long-gestating Rachel Maddow project in favor of an exposé on Shirley? We need more on this massively influential stupid YouTuber, about whom I wouldn’t hear a thing at this point but for The Nick Column. Er, The Fifth Column.
LOL... I just call Facebook, both the site and the company, "Facebook". Though given how obviously stupid-in-advance an idea the metaverse always was, maybe it would be a good dig to switch to calling them both "Meta".
Oh, no. Well, in the unlikely event that happens, I’ll…roll my eyes? Mostly I won’t care, because I hold the Pulitzer Prize in about as high a regard as I do the FIFA Peace Prize or a “World’s Greatest _______ “ coffee mug. Or the Nobel Peace Prize, for that matter.
I suppose I’m less concerned about social media influencers holding sway with the current administration than I was about mainstream media figures, people with much larger platforms, having ties to members of previous administrations — in some cases, being literally in bed with them.
Also, criticism of YouTube shows is surprisingly elitist, and particularly strange when coming from someone who hosts a YouTube show.
Nick Shirley is to the podcast what Megyn Kelly and Batya Ungar-Sargon are to the podcast chat. No offense.
I don’t really understand the allure of watching podcasts, I like multitasking personally with just the audio, but for those of you that don’t want ads on YouTube, use Brave as your browser and you won’t get ads.
I think both Kmele and Michael are right about Kanye. It's absolutely possible for an otherwise [or sometimes] lucid person to sound like a complete conspiratorial asshole because of mental illness - even to Kanye's extent. Maybe it comes from a seed of truth in his brain, but I don't doubt that the illness dialed it to 11. Where I agree with Moynihan is that while you can't help how mental illness makes you think or feel, unfortunately we all live in a world where behavior has consequences. I wouldn't cheer for the kind of consequences that psychotic illness brings, but when someone acts like a jerk, society is going to shun them. The only solution is for the person to learn how to manage their public behavior. It can be done, but not until the symptoms get under control. Maybe that's what's going on with Kanye? Just want to ask folks to consider it. Psychotic mental illness is a cruel, cruel bitch.
Producer Jason has swapped out the video audio for the audio-audio, and so it should work now. Please check!
Thanks for flagging, all!
“mhm. Mhm. Mhm. Mhm.”
………….mhm
Haha i thought the first pause they were doing a bit
Does this mean eventually a new version will land in my podcast feed? So far, it's just the old weird one.
I see - you have to delete the old download and re-download. Got it.
All fixed now!! Great response time

The silencing of MM!
Guys: Also check Anthony Fisher’s audio—have not heard him the past 350 episodes or so.
"That's gold, Jerry! Gold!" - thanks for the chortle, sir.
I've yet to hear what went down. He was suddenly just gone and it wasn't even acknowledged??
That said, there SEEMS to be some sort of story there, but who knows.

These are my Saturday thoughts. Sorry.

Great Insider comment, here!
Video seems to be posting just fine… Your audio version in Apple Podcasts has issues, sounds like MM‘S microphone wasn’t being tracked correctly
So it was a silent podcast 😆
Still no MM audio on Apple podcast~
Ditto on Podcast addict
Audio versiosn on substack and in the feed are the same.
The dead air at the beginning was a great part of the pod
Can confirm; no Moyn in audio, even on Pocket Casts.

The MM-less pod
you should end all the shows with the superbowl shuffle until GameDay
This pod: https://garfieldminusgarfield.net
That's brilliant. I'll never read the strip the same again.

I was wondering about this, too. Her "take" on the protests in Iran was so stupidly weird; this is probably why.

I will never refer to the site as X. It has been and always will be Twitter, until the day it finally shuts down.
You show ‘em! I’m still calling Facebook The Facebook. I’m taking a stand and I won’t back down!
LOL... I just call Facebook, both the site and the company, "Facebook". Though given how obviously stupid-in-advance an idea the metaverse always was, maybe it would be a good dig to switch to calling them both "Meta".
You must be joking. The VP wanted him nominated for a Pulitzer, and there’s a good argument to be made that HE is the reason Ice is in Minneapolis.

Same issue. No moyn on the podcast feed.
Can we get Klosterman back? 4 episodes in a row of non stop ICE / Trump talk is getting old
Seems like a conspiracy to show how much air time MM takes up 😂😂😂
I was going to make a joke about "was able to listen to the whole thing in 14 minutes," but it felt a little too mean.
great episode of pod save America guys
