Two funny things about Timothy Snyder and Jason Stanley moving to Toronto because of “fascism”:
1. As Nate Silver already pointed out, it’s worth emphasizing just how incredibly privileged these two are—fleeing authoritarianism by relocating to Toronto, arguably the most expensive city in Canada.
2.This one might only amuse me, but Ben Dreyfuss said they’re moving “far away”…to Connecticut. A lot of Americans genuinely don’t seem to know where Toronto—or for that matter, Canada—is. 😂
Does anyone ever engage with Snyder on his hyperbolic perspective of modern day “fascism”? ie. in a debate form? Or is it always just him venting his TDS? I haven’t looked far enough into it but I’d only be interested in content where there’s some back and forth.
The MLB change will perhaps help out a player like Pete Rose eventually, but many of the others will still be on the outs. Shoeless Joe never listened to Springsteen, and that's the most unforgivable sin to a baseball writer. It's the only thing worse than not being in bed by 10:23PM eastern safe in the knowledge that everything in baseball for that day has happened.
Leave it to Megyn to fight today's battles, unless you're a Republican, in which case fight today's battles from the last Democratic administration until there's another one.
Kind of a random question: does anyone know what covid-never-enders are called? The people who seethe that emergency measures were ended during the Biden admin?
Woah! Megyn Kelly was horrible; she sidestepped the trump kids' corruption, expressed so much admiration for tucker and was just credulous of all of trump's foreign policy claims.
Thanks for putting the key information right in the subhead and covering it at the top! It’s the little things that show when someone is mindful of the audience. I read it through anyway but those little things distinguish the good eggs from the rest.
Also, I found FIRE’s assessment very intriguing. The law firm attacks are the most interesting and egregious on the face of it. I say interesting because the response from right leaners who are varying degrees Trump skeptical/not “team players” has been muted at best.
Also, just like the 1st term and frankly all presidencies, the pattern persists that news salience & issue salience are poorly correlated, and the Trump admin only sticks out because there is so much discourse about violations in rights, the law, and/or the constitution.
That poor correlation is not always the fault of the media. The law firm story takes a bit to disentangle and is narrowly targeted in a way the broader public isn’t immediately interested in, nevermind that the victims are an especially unsympathetic group. Layer on that even if the media was approaching this admin with seriousness and a sense of both historical precedence & proportion, it’d be a chaotic news environment, given all the activity and the issues and their implications for most Americans/the world. Important to keep perspective as news critics on the sorts of issues that exist because of bad news media behaviour and the ones that are intractable for secular reasons.
1) Kmele writes?
2) How does someone so busy have time for multiple jobs?
3) Is he embarrassed by how stereotypically Jamaican his multiple jobs is?
If Kmele gets paid by the minute he won’t earn much.
Congrats to Kmele! I just hope we DON'T get a replacement (Spencer has been vying for Kmele's job for a while now)
Edit: an important word was omitted in my haste to congratulate Kmele
Richard Spencer?
Spencer from the 1st comment

Willa Cather is one of the all time greats. Way to go, Michael!
Not everyone feels you’re ALL Lizard People. I think the conspiracy was just Michael… 🤷♂️
Thanks for putting all this together as usual! ❤️❤️

One good thing about the next round of democrats in power will be the republicans can go back to pretending to care about fiscal conservatism
I recently told my dad that we finally got the socialist president they were warning me about my whole life and he voted for him.
