Back in 1988, my dad (UT-Austin English prof) was really looking forward to Bill Moyer's series "Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth." He was deeply disappointed in the series, and I could understand why. On the other hand, I really liked Campbell's book, "The Hero With A Thousand Faces." I read it after the series aired and recommended it to my dad, but he wasn't interested.
Please know that this is not some gratuitous anti-Megyn Kelly grenade I'm throwing here (and I'll tap that sign as often as I need to), but that differential in trust between Megyn and Haviv Rettig Gur needs some work, everybody. Goddamn. Who ARE you people?
Apropos of nothing in today’s post by Matt, but I was just wandering around my local Target store this morning and thought about the predictions (made by Moynihan I believe, and others) that regardless of what Trump would do with tariffs, since cargo ships from China were supposedly stopping, that US consumers would see shortages and empty shelves a month later. Well, we’re on the cusp of July now, so genuine question: has anyone experienced this predicted impact of the tariff war (skirmish) in May? I don’t see any myself, but maybe others have been unable to buy certain things or seen prices skyrocket. Would love to know.
Supply chains are complex organisms and about as easy to predict as the stock market. Target is an example of a large company with a massive logistics network domestic and abroad. Because of this, they've been able to adapt to much of the disruption so far but that doesn't mean that this will remain so. Keep in mind that many of the proposed tariffs that caused the ships to stop were then rolled back which allowed goods to flow again in the interim. The on/off nature of the policy thus far is generating massive headaches for logistics people but their job is to move goods so they find ways to do it.
It was refreshing to hear Strauss and Moynihan talk WNBA and the fact that no one fucking cares. Confirming my biases and suspicions. I wish the media would stop cramming this garbage down my throat; my Apple news has been cluttered with WNBA articles during the span of the season going on 2 years now.
The thing I hate most about the WNBA is not the WNBA. It's that a certain segment of women blame men for the unpopularity of women's sports. But you know who doesn't watch women's sports in any kind of consequential numbers? Women!
The only people that care about it is the media. They’re trying so hard to sell it, it’s kind of fucking weird. I really hate how the media tries so hard to manufacture interest in a given topic or subject.
Matt, you can always do a vinyl wrap on the car if you ever want a different color on the outside. It also has the added benefit of protecting that paint.
Hope the damage got repaired without you getting murdered. 🫡
Ah look at the young Matt Welch. Uploaded 17 years ago!!! Has to be one of the first 50 videos on YouTube. Can’t help but wonder if either of those other two old boys are still around.
Aaaand after a quick Google search looks like Moyers died this week, hence why Matt posted this video. Maybe I should read the accompanying text instead of skimming. I’m a little slow but I figured it out eventually.
Oh wow And he helped create the peace corps. Or as I refer to it, my time in South America doing contract work for the State department.
I enjoyed the Moyers and Joseph Campbell interviews in high school. I really found those impactful and went on to read many of Campbell’s books. RIP Bill Moyers.
Okay, I’ll say it: I think the lime green is kind of fun.
It surprises me not that style is of no consequence in Welch’s vehicular purchases.
Why do I see that picture and hear in my head John Goodman yelling, “You see what happens, Matty?!”
No it snot.
That was the most shocking part of this week’s update, IMO.
Thanks for all of the compiling…hard to keep track during weeks like this! So much content!!
The more people who come to baseball with us, the more easily we can reenact Angels in the Outfield and force Matt to watch
Has the man not suffered enough this week?!??
Guess I’m gonna be listening to Document all weekend! Poor me! 😀
Yes, this was the only possible title for this post.

This Bobby Sherman song was a family favorite when I was growing up. 🥲
I’m thrilled Bobby makes the walk off. My first concert!

I mean, Moynihan's dress.
(I am the most price-ignorant person I know, so I wouldn't notice a 20% change in any direction.)

This week has been so insane that I missed Bill Moyers died?!?
I thought the same thing!!

I didn’t think politics could get anymore retarded than Sleepy Joe then the second Trump presidency happened!

Like E. F. Hutton, when Kmele talks, people listen. And Hutton built Mar-a-Lago!
