I haven't been reading a lot of these Firehoses lately. Complete coincidence that I read this one today. Now I know I need to read every one from now on, just in case.
Kurt Russell starred in the best sports movie ever made in Kern county: The Best of Times (1986). Three decades later, Disney (with Costner rather than Russell) made a pretty good Kern county sports movie itself, in the true-life story of McFarland, USA.
Those films were built around high-school football and cross country, respectively. The best baseball story set in the San Joaquin Valley that I know, one that very much deserves a movie, is the barnstorming visit made by the '27 Yankees (Ruth and Gehrig, at least) to play against the pioneers of Japanese-American baseball in Fresno. With Ohtani mania now consuming Los Angeles and MLB, this would seem to be the perfect time for such a film.
I look to forward to Moynihan coming back from his trip and lamenting the lack of air conditioning, as this has become a bit of a yearly tradition.
Tickets are publicly available for July 29 https://www.comedycellar.com/reservations-newyork/?showid=1753826400

The "unsurprisingly" is my favorite part.

I'll be attending the debate at the National Liberty Museum next Wednesday. If anyone wants to meet up, feel free to message.
Ken Klippenstein is what happens when you photoshop a 45 year old’s hair onto a 17 year old’s face.
It's like a Where's Waldo puzzle in a picture at Nancy's apartment to see that copy of Desert Oracle somewhere (❤️❤️❤️)
