Anytime Lemmy is mentioned, it reminds me that he wrote the Ozzy Osbourne song "Mama I'm Coming Home". It's a polarizing song because many Ozzy fans and heavy metal purists don't like the song because its too much of a soft rock ballad, even though it is written and performed by two metal icons. I've always loved the song, been listening to it a lot since Ozzy's passing. I know the song is about Sharon, but it almost feels like the lyrics have a new meaning now, weird how music can be like that sometimes.
to keep the Lemmy love going here's a song/video I mentioned in a fif' chat thread about favorite covers a week or so ago (come for the great song and stay for lots of lovely Motörhead candids and concert footage):
Does the LA County Fair count? I went to high school in Pomona so I went many times but my wife assuredly did not, but she and my kids LOVE the fair. They no longer have the gang shootings they used to have there decades ago, but it IS a slice of the "real" Southern California that no one West of the LA River seems to know exists.
Completely exhausted by the pols who have now embraced the principles FIRE has maintained for more than a quarter-century. Some of us weird libertarian-types spent years talking about them. Instead of engaging the legislatures to fix things, legislatures just exacerbated the problems, ceded more authority to the unelected, unaccountable bureaucracy. Now when you have to unwind the knot you tied, you’re unwilling to do that, fall back on concepts that are basically gone in the places you’ve chosen to empower. Bubuhbut DUE PROCESS!!1! What is that under Admin Procedure?
I watched Wes Moore on “Face The Nation” this morning.
Yes, OrangeManBad. But you all spent years building what he’s using.
If you’re looking for sympathy…..I’m sure your time in the Army let you know where you can find it.
I’m reminded of the indictments of the police officers who were kneeling on George Floyd. Listening to the indictments I was stunned at the serious charges the officers were facing. Two rookie cops facing serious prison them for following their training officer’s lead?
But the prosecutors laid out the Minnesota statutes.
Holy crap. That’s what the statutes say?
Mental note to stay out of there. But a legislative passed that.
Live from Budokan was such a groundbreaking album. It completely reshaped some of their songs into the classics we now think of them as. If you listen to the album version of "I Want You to Want Me," it's a completely different vibe. The Budokan version is the definitive version. Really not used to that.
Thank you Nolan G for a much-needed dose of kindness. Also, my husband probably says “ancient Chinese secret” at least once a week, which has kept my Gen Z kids’ senses of humor mostly intact—he’s cringe, but they love their dad!

Love it. So hot tho.
They wisely moved it to May a few years ago, so still hot but no longer the brutal Labor Day hellscape it used to be.
Jason Stanley is a twat. And so is Ro Khanna. Nobody fucks with Mr Chick on my watch.
I still mourn the PM 5th that never was 😢😢😢
But his spot on the MR was really good! (In fact, I even recommended it in the subchat.) and I bought the book!
That Cheap Trick video instantly became one of my favorite things on YouTube. Thank you.

100%. Pretty rich of Stanley to blame FIRE for the “moral panic about leftism in the universities”—good luck in Canada, tool!

I’m absolutely desperate for a picture of a tall ass cow. Please drop immediately thank you
Sadly unphotographed! Too many!
Now I’m hungover AND crying wow
I never promised you a rose garden!
Lost it when it was revealed at the beginning of the Moskos MR that Moynihan had screwed up recording his intro and had to redo it.

Speaking of weird commercials I came across this on youtube not long ago: https://youtu.be/-d35pFJ2peY?si=SxR2vbzR96EvQksq
