Get-Me-Through-the-Weekend Links: Baseball, Substack, Aussie Pie and Chalamet
Happy baseball playoffs, for those of you who celebrate! If you were among those who enjoyed my Historians epi w/ John Thorn, I’d like to recommend my recently posted Reason feature, “How Government Devastated Minor League Baseball” (audio here). As ever, you can find my Reason output here; readings thereof here. Onward to news & nuggets from the community:
* Kmele’s episode on Conversations With Coleman went into wide release. Sayeth young Mr. Hughes: “Kmele will be known to many of you as the co-host of The Fifth Column Podcast which is one of my favorite podcasts….”
* Fif’ fan favorite Josh Szeps (Episodes #25, #80, #103, #117, #196, #328) has announced that he’ll be hosting a new show on ABC Radio Sydney come January. The name, alas, is a missed opportunity....
* Blocked and Reported, the Fifth Column’s official cover band, has moved to Substack. (Re-listen to Katie Herzog on #228 & #331; Jesse Singal on #111 & #171.)
* Speaking of going indie, Bari Weiss (#89, #159, #180, #187) went on the Reliable Sources podcast with Brian Stelter (#127) to talk about her successes & what she’s learned so far.
* Once and very-near-future guest Ethan Strauss (#185), also a freshly minted Substacker, had old pal Nancy Rommelmann (#79, #198, #203) on his podcast, talking about her interview with John Wayne Gacy & other delights.
* Am I including this here to make the headline above work? Of course! The new Dune, starring Timothée Chalamet, is out in theaters today, and Reason movie critic (!) Kurt Loder has a review (and also of the new Velvet Underground doc).
* Finally, a REMINDER: Please keep sending (via the comments here is best, to share with the whole class) your recommendations, preferably with timestamps, of best-of-Patreon moments, so that Moynihan can cobble together a highlight reel to show the cheapskates what they’re missing.
Thanks all! And have a swell weekend.
