Matt, I love your explainer on the death of hair metal. I was also there to watch it go down. Btw, I would love to listen to you guys and Kurt Loder. Please ask him on
Thanks, Matt for all the travel tips! I’ll definitely check those out. And good to know that there really is a big difference between traveling in June vs July/August, for many places at least. I had been wondering that.
Love seeing the love for side 2 of G’NR Lies. Though their live Mama Kin just before Patience is also a f’ing banger. I made the pilgrimage to Lafayette last year. It’s remarkable how much W. Axl Rose’s childhood neighborhood resembles Aberdeen Cobain’s block.
Love "Decline Part II" and have watched it many times. I unrepentantly love 80's hair metal and have been on the Monster's of Rock Cruise six times. It is exactly what you think it is. I'm in this video at 12 seconds in the Ghost shirt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJyN_drMtJs
Regarding Andrew’s question- It’s because Warrant never penned anything like the epic mall rock staple, “Runaway”. That tune is a banger. We all know it.
And to Matt’s point- yes, the acoustic thing did a lot to boost Bon Jovi’s cred, even if they were playing Ovation guitars with conchos on the guitar strap and dream catchers hanging off the headstock and airbrushed wolves on the body. It may have been goofy, but it was way cooler than “Cherry Pie”.
Am I wrong or was Kennedy voted the worst VJ on MTV and she said on the air during a late night broadcast that we all could “eat her big vagina!” I swear to god that happened but it was long ago and I don’t sleep well…
Hoo boy, to the jealousy emailer: I feel you. As a Realtor, you better fucking believe I work with some wildly successful and unbelievably stupid motherfuckers on the daily. It’s frustrating on a good day.
Think it's bad to design their nightmares? You should try to actually build them and service them.
That said, I still love homebuilding, having decided that was what I wanted to do as a child. I have infinite admiration for those who stick to their craft, for the sake of themselves and the search for meaning and joy above everything else.
As the son of a self-employed milkman who thus was on the truck starting before puberty, I've filled many a bottle out on the road. Coke bottle is an awful choice though. I'm not exactly Peter North over here, but even I need a wider opening. Also, when you have to go that bad that you need a bottle, you go with something that has more volume than half a liter.
Chris, if the market is too volatile down in Oklahoma, Alaska seems to have a more consistent oil & gas industry. Plenty of guys make the rotational commute from the lower 48, and some of us even live overseas. Sure the rig work is up and down but O&M is very consistent, been at it for 18 years now.
Andrew F., I’m with you on Bon J. And Matt, I love your “Appreciate those…original joy.” That’s beautiful. But we can say Bon Jovi stinks while feeling and appreciating the love 💪.
Also, Andrew F., there’s a side of DMB for everyone. I’m telling you. Have you heard “Halloween”? Try that one on.
Last thing to jealous film guy: if you’re a white dude, you picked the hardest 10 years in film history to “make it” - the great diversification was real and I know many formerly successful directors and writers who could no longer find work. This IS changing. Most are now back to working based on their talent. Film festivals will lag behind, but eventually they will also come to realize once again that straight white males have something worthy to say

My wife is an architect. Almost the entirety of her clientele are failsons/faildaughters who ask for things that boggle the mind and rend the soul...

Hell yea John McWaters always coming through with good music 💪

Few things worse than that realization that you're going to need another (out-of-reach) container.

You know it’s crazy to me that cosa nostra got that much radio play, cause this was the hardest of the songs for me to find a YouTube link for.
