Jello Biafra might be an idiot, but his mother, Virginia Boucher, was a librarian at the University of Colorado and supported the First Amendment, as many old-school librarians do/did. She was kind of famous (well, among librarians) for developing Interlibrary Loan practices and policies. When I hear "California Uber Alles," I think of my student years working in the ILL department of my college library. Before the Internet, ILL was tremendously important for scholarly research!
This is by no means the most important thing to take away from these letters -- but Travels With Charley may be Steinbeck's best work, and it's certainly his most enjoyable.
I don't know why, but his ramblings about how he wants an imperfect sandwich that has clearly been touched by people making it is one of those things that has stuck with me for decades.
This is great, Ryan, thanks for sharing. “Making politics boring” resonates a ton. Maybe These Two Suck’s motto is something like “making making politics boring exciting.”
My cousins are HR, and we had this conversation about woke, DEI demanding people, who talk at other employees (read as peers) as if they are there to police speech.
They said that it is best to report them to HR. Let them know that they make you uncomfortable, they are distracting you from work, and you don’t want to discuss politics in the workplace.
There are laws that require them to address this. HR will temper those folks, or they will let them go for cause.
It’s not that DEI is bad, as the core planks are what the current laws already enforce, it’s that people use it to harass others to shift ideologies. Just be sure to not create a scene and be the first to report them, as the first person to report is the victim.
Michael P might be young but bursting with ideas! Keep 'em coming y'all.
Great mailbucket yet again and so happy to hear about Jenny!
Michael P’s suggestion does not go far enough. We need to identify the worst two politicians from each state.
Michael P agrees :)
Hmmmm, I’ll do my home state: Lyndsey Graham and Lyndsey Graham.
Relegation seems like an appropriate rule to add to the political sport league. Where can I donate to These Two Suck?

Nice! To be clear, I like Jello!
Outstanding emails. Well worth the effort to post them.

In Re Michael P: give this a listen.

Called it! Well, I think I called it. Remains to be seen. 🤫
Love the pic at the top! Haha!
I haven’t even got to the emails yet but the bobblehead toon is priceless. They’re getting funnier as we go. Reminds me of those animated JRE clips:
