As someone who doesn't live in the US, Andrew was invaluable because if one of you mentioned being on a TV show, I knew he'd have posted the clip so I could watch.
I’m so new to this community that I did not know this man and after reading this I know I missed out on something special. I started listening and eventually became a subscriber after Walter Kirn and Matt Taibbi parted ways and I needed something new to listen to. I found out about Andrew’s death from a Walter Kirn tweet. Now I find myself here, weeping with the rest of you who did know him. Sometimes these communities feel so big and harsh and disparate…and then something happens and they almost feel like family.
RIP Andrew “Busty” Wimsatt. Like many others I’m just streaming tears and I still have more to read. I’ll finish it and listen to slowdive in his honor. I sometimes wonder if an online community like this is the same as one that is local. But seeing the response , my own emotional response, the outpouring of love - I do see that it is very real and special. Busty is an inspiration, and not because he could manage to get a rare Kmele response, but because of what I’m hearing about him following his own passions, and being selfless. I want to live my life in this way. Busty thank you for modeling what it means to live a life well lived, while tragically and senselessly taken, but still to a life well lived. God bless you, Andrew Wimsatt.
I only ever knew him as an oft praised name of the fifth crew, but this tribute is both heart wrenching and heart warming. May this lovely man rest in peace.
I still feel relatively new to the Fifth and don’t post much. I do read the comments here and a few other sites where I get different types of news- politics, sports, etc. This community is really incredible. So rare to see people posting insults, attacks, or just plain shitty human behavior. This was a beautiful tribute, Matt. And I’m frankly inspired by so many of the comments. Just decent folks grieving and supporting each other. Also beautiful.

I never knew him, I just couldn't read all of this, I read about halfway. I had to stop after cleaning my glasses for the 4th time. heartbreaking.
I did not know him, but as I read I am so inspired to try to be more like him. And am heartbroken for all who surely miss him.
