I've never directly interacted with Andrew but his presence within my Twitter/ Substack world was certainly felt by me, wishing him internal peace - a terrible loss to us all.
Appreciate this show for this day - every year on this day I feel like my heart gets ripped open all over again. Back in 2001, I was a junior accountant getting ready for a big meeting with a potential client that never happened. My father, an NYPD Deputy Inspector at the time called me after the two planes hit but before the towers fell and told me to get off the LIRR and head back home.
In the immediate aftermath I felt I had to go down to the site (where my father was still working daily on the bucket brigade) so there wasn't a locked down perimeter.
I felt I needed to go and tell the lost souls stilled buried there (a few I knew personally) that it should have been me and not them. I had no one depending on me like many of them did. Its a strange feeling that still comes back to me each year (and in a way maybe even oddly selfish?) but anyways, listening to the first 20 mins of the podcast had me feel like I had to actually say that out loud (or you know, type it out on the internet to live in infamy), 25 years later.
Andrew will be missed. It was a downer of an episode, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good or necessary. The Fifth Column should mourn the loss of someone like him.

There is a lot of research that shows that investigators asking leading questions of victims has implanted memories or details that didn’t exist or happen in that sequence. While on a jury of a court-martial, the defense had a specialist come in and present us with the research. 🤷♂️
When I asked MM about a book in the last SS, Busty had the Amazon link posted in the chat before I was even done asking for those who wanted to know about it - a small gesture but an example of how he lived his life.
