Listening over morning coffee, debating whether I can get away with yet another day of not folding the mound of laundry - currently covering half the couch - in the name of engaging in (read: listening to) thoughtful discussion. Could I do both? Yes. Will I? Lord no...because Jesus' birthday is tomorrow and he doesn't want me to. Jesus chooses Mike...and potentially spiked coffee.
If you want to see the Welch gals enjoying Christmas in Paris - check out Matt's IG.
The pictures are fantastic. Between the beauty of the city & the beauty + personalities of Matt's gals, i can't help thinking how lucky Monsieur Welch is.
Matt, thank you for sharing. Whatever else you and your wife do, you made some spectacular kids.
It still amazes me that no one at Harvard seems to realize that their dismissive attitude towards the Claudine Gay allegations is playing directly into their critics' hands. Hard to find a clearer example of how promoting an agenda has replaced quality scholarship as the primary focus of the university. Veritas, indeed!
Don't call me Doug Murray absolutely destroyed Cenk Yunger (I butcher his name but who cares) over Isreal and Hammas on Piers Morgan. A very melodramatic acting job by Cenk who gives a fuck what his name is anyway who just casts aspersions and resorts to name calling which Douglas very neatly deals with. Everyone watch as a Xmas present
In regards to Welch’s recent comments regarding Musicology which, I agree, is mostly horseshit. I must direct y’all’s attention to Ted Gioia’s Substack “The Honest Broker”. The man is a straight up legend, scholar, and cool AF. He’s also been in Conversations with Coleman and therefore deserves some Fifth street cred. His Musicology-ish book is epic and can be found here on Substack: https://open.substack.com/pub/tedgioia/p/what-do-conductors-really-do?r=7inmh&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post
Irrationally, few things set my teeth on edge more than the American habit of calling individual Lego bricks "Legos". I've complained to substack and expect you to be deplatformed soon.
It’s like when Americans call pasta “noodles”. (btw, noodles=Asian, pasta = Italian.) Lego is already plural. Or anyone saying “expresso”. Fingernails on a chalkboard! 🤣
The CNN segment was a win for Team MM, “It’s either plagiarism or it isn’t,” versus the flawed ideology that accusations surfaced by political rivals are summarily – invalid? Whether the accusations came to light from political rivals, the press, or cherished donors is irrelevant compared to the response, which will directly reflect Harvard’s integrity, or lack thereof, and they can manage the resulting fallout. Harvard is racing towards integritate carentem. Cheers all!
"Nevermind the actual words printed on the page, the accusations came from the RIGHT!"
The arrogance of this stance is staggering. I hate to be another dude on the internet quoting Orwell, but "the Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command," just feels so apt.
Man, it is quite something to see mainstream news anchors sounding like libertarian podcast hosts complaining about the insanity of "microaggressions". It would have been nice 3 years ago, but the second best time is now.
Seeing Margaret Hoover next to Moynihan makes me wonder why the boys haven't been invited on The Firing Line yet! Or vice versa.
Very good John Cochrane piece in why Claudine Gay should be fired. (Hint: not for the most discussed reasons). Read to the end for equally damning, but less reportef parts of her testimony.
Guys apologies if others have brought this up, but I could really use an intelligent breakdown of the migrant crisis. At issue, like practically everything else, is that the only people covering it are right wing partisans, and if it gets an mention at all on NPR it's about the humanitarian angle. My wife is getting increasingly radicalized by all the local news reports and Eric Adams speeches, and now swears she won't vote democratic for the next decade. I'm trying to be more nuanced, saying it's not just because Biden that this is happening, it would have been a handful for Trump as well, marco-economic factors, etc. If somebody like Reason has already covered the "what/why/who's responsible/what's the solution if there is one", I'd love to read it. If not, I'd love to hear either the fifth column guys do a play by play, or invite somebody on who's an expert. (And yes, I know they discussed *aspects* of it on earlier episodes.
Also I really think Ken Roth could only tolerate so many insults during the interview. Noam came off really biased and not objective whatsoever. It’s pretty pathetic when you post debunking bullshit after right Roth already corrected himself. Just seemed really bad faith! No wonder Roth ended early lol
Eli Lake podcast w/ Moynihan dropped in the middle of the night! Merry Christmas everyone!

"Behavior that gets rewarded gets repeated."
I'm getting that printed on a t-shirt and wearing it to our local school board meetings...
Pull the district logo, slap it on the front, with that "slogan" on the back. Let me know how it goes.
Happy Christmas to all!.

Ok, that intro photo... priceless...

I know. The other day I ordered spaghetti and marinara and they gave me egg noodles and ketchup. I felt like a schnook.
Joyous noel, Welches and Richards!

I love that you passed thedrug screen, then immediately wrote something that could get you fired. There were bandanas involved surely?

Ken Roth is the Philip Bump of Human Rights Watch.

Horrible use of resources by Congress investigating these administrators. This is about the conservative assault on DEI. Always has been.
