Thanks for the shoutout! The Fifth Column is the Holy of Holies in my Temple of podcasts, with you three as co-high priests.

Matt Welch is one of the few journos magnanimous enough to share the love of the Fif community by posting relevant work so Fif followers can check it out. He's a good egg, and this is more proof we're not Fif listeners by accident.

What would count as evidence for people like Aaron Mate? Does he need semen samples mailed directly to his house?

The Times article relied on "video footage, photographs, GPS data from mobile phones and interviews with more than 150 people, including witnesses, medical personnel, soldiers and rape counselors." Women's bodies were found naked, some with bullets and nails in their vaginas, one with semen on her back, etc. And none of this is evidence? The NY Times are Zionist apologists? (Since when?)

What evidence could possibly convince Mate? I'd like to know.

One of my fave memes (described since I can’t post the image): 3 drinking glasses sitting in a row, the first one labeled optimist says, “I’m half full!”, the second one labeled pessimist says, “I’m half empty!”, the third one labeled realist says, “I think this is piss!”

J’adore Monsieur Welch. He works his arse off and has an incredible family. Coco could have her own spin-off series.

However, after being incredibly amused by my families 16-20 year old crowd, trying to get vapes and handle their tequila, as they circle the other 16-20 year old groups (at the resort) I think the out music should be:

We have all been in these lyrics, in this song, in that world.

Cheers for peace and health in 2024!

L’Chaim!!

May you find a vape, some tequila and an 11 year old brother who yells at his 16 year old sister (who is in the hot tub) getting the gears from some “17 year old” dude from NY, that “mom says it’s time to come up to sleep”.

DiAngelo calls John McWhorter "very conservative" because she doesn't have the lady-cojones to say what she really wants to say, which is that he's an "Oreo" or "Coconut" i.e. black on the outside, white on the inside. Those are the favorite ad-hom attacks of extreme progressives who don't believe any REAL black people could not wallow in the worst sort of DEI propaganda (DiAngelo's), but even she has to know people of her ilk are treading on thin ice after the 3 Amigos fiasco (3 Ivy presidents testimony) so DiAngelo has to merely label him "very conservative." To her in-group, the self-hating racism is already baked into the label.

Total shout out to John McWhorter for his “debate” with Robin DAngelo. I laughed out loud. The audacity of this white woman telling Black man who he speaks for. Jesus, there is absolutely nothing worst then this “white savior” progressives

Also, Benjy’s essay is definitely awesome, and I hope to see more from him and everyone should give him a follow!

Thanks Matt! Looking at the Spotify list, I’d forgotten about Blackie from Urge Overkill. My hub’s band shared a record label with them and they played together many times. Good stuff from a great music era.

To get a sense of Cenk Uygur, read the description of his book (https://www.amazon.com/Justice-Coming-Progressives-Country-America-ebook/dp/B088DQT7D3), which I assume he wrote or had some hand in creating.

That seems to be a really strange belief that progressives have held for as long as I have been aware of politics. That there is this massive silent majority of progressives who are just dying to put a true progressive into the presidency, and once we run a true progressive they will win in such a landslide that no one will ever even consider running against them again.

I guess for some reason Debs, Thomas, LaFollette, Long, Couglin, Wallace, Hall, McGovern, Kennedy, Nader, The Greens, and the Peace and Freedom never quite fit the bill.

Reminds me of the old "true socialism has never been tried" canard. It's like, ok, maybe no one has achieved "true" socialism, but a ton of countries have tried almost-but-not-quite-true socialism and those are generally complete disasters. On the other hand, you could say nobody's tried "true" capitalism either, but the countries that are closest are basically the best countries in the world.

So to me, "true socialism has never been tried" is actually an argument AGAINST socialism. Maybe "true" socialism is really great if it can be achieved (who knows?), but, apparently if you get it just slightly wrong, it's going to blow up in your face. With capitalism, the closer you get to the real deal, the better it gets. The risk/reward ratio is just not in socialism's favor.

You often get that from the Jacobin crowd when they talk about socialism, especially in debates. They say up front they adamantly refuse to talk about any other countries experiment with socialism, only the wonderful future socialism that will exist here in America.

Yes, as we all know, the best way to avoid the mistakes of the past is to refuse to acknowledge them.

Turned on the Cenk/Murray/Piers thing but could only listen for a few seconds because I think all three of them are terrible. Since the only feedback I saw was just “Hell yea Douglas Murray!” and not “that was interesting” I just assumed nothing interesting was said.

Are you taking about the YouTube comments? I found them the usual half the people saying one thing, and half the people saying the exact opposite and never the twain shall meet. It's always bothers me in debate comments how little push back there is from somebodies supporters even if their representative does a terrible job.

Not so much the YouTube comments as what I saw people saying in my Twitter feed

OMG, I was just listening to the Murray/Cenk thing last night. Needless to say I bailed after about 10 minutes. Cenk not only buys all the Hamas propaganda, he seems to think they are under-reporting things. And whenever someone really leads into the "shut up, I'm talking" thing, they are there to have a monologue, not a dialogue.

That Jane Birkin, what a national treasure. I know it's trite, but shit Matt, you can't get around "Je t'aime... moi non plus". It rivals NIN's "Closer" for naughtiness, but asks for an entirely different style of fucking, n'est-ce pas?
