I went back and listened to a lot of old episodes at random.
I would love a regular recommendation piece in Firehose. You often bring up items that were suggested and link to them, but would be cool to have a book/movie/podcast/TV show/music rec from you guys regularly.
I like how the shows do not follow a format in particular and are free wheeling, but don't have the 3 dudes in a basement vibe.
Also, Michael should only be able to make up fake dinner conversations he has twice monthly. π
I think you need the official un-official TFC search link perma-posted in the firehoses.
I know youβre setting up a youtube channel, so maybe have Archβs videos there as well (assuming the legal beagles all approve, along with Arch)
Do supercuts of the shows (like how Reason does) and do Youtube Shorts that can be shared far and wide on the interwebs.
Have a rotating segment (I know Matt hates it when Peter does this on TRRT) but it can be ridiculous shit, like The Man Showβs βGirls bouncing on trampolinesβ but for 2025 and made for podcasts. Iβm sure the production team can come up with stuff that fits into the TFC wheelhouse. (I do miss βSome Idiot Wrote Thisβ but understand why it went away).
YT Shorts of pre/post-gaming of episodes (behind the scenes stuff)
Iβm sure there is more I can think ofβ¦ Iβm happy you are doing well enough to get production staff! β€οΈπΊπΊπΊ
I like many of the suggestions Iβve seen. How about a regional location tour with live shows and meet and greets for paying subscribers. Iβm thinking Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas or Austin, LA or Bay Area, Denver. Maybe you could even do some international shows - France or Italy, Israel, and Australia.
It would be great to have more guests for the regular episodes to differentiate a bit more from the subscriber episodes. They donβt have to be βdebatesβ although those are fun too. But itβs interesting to have someone else on occasionally to have a slightly different perspective. There have been very few episodes with guests that I didnβt enjoy.
Just writing to second your βgo for a driveβ theory on patriotism and general belief that the state of the union may just be pretty OK.
In my case, itβs just go for a bike ride. I live in the forests and grasslands outside of Eugene, Oregon where it is pretty much Berkeley surrounded by Alabama.
2 small examples of high trust community and neighborliness just from this morning:
1. Roadside βfarm standβ on country road in the middle of the forest. Stocked with fruit, vegetables and home canned jams. No one there. Just drop your cash in the jar and take it home
2. Pull in my driveway to find that my βneighborβ (we live about a mile apart) has used his riding lawnmower to mow around our driveway and mailboxes. Wasnβt asked to, just doing it to be a good dude.
No idea who he voted for and I couldnβt care less!! Just being helpful.
Keep up the travels!!
Also- we are the same age and I cannot get enough 70βs through 90βs random baseball references. Laughed out loud at the Gene Mauch line on the Reason Roundtable
I have a suggestion for the podcast. What if you took some of your sports and/or music tangents, and created episodes devoted to them, with guests? I think it may convince some of us to share your passion for these things if there was more of an explanation of why we should care. I am one of your listeners who skips past your insider discussions on say, baseball and Bob Dylan. But I would totally listen to an episode where you had a guest on to discuss Dylan's life and how he fits in the American canon, or how baseball connects to different historical events.
If you could do a super cut of your responses, Iβd listen to yβall on Megyn. She luuuurves hearing the sound of her own voice and delivering her Trumpomonic wisdom (like Solomon, but less Jewish). Iβve tried skipping ahead to where one of TFC is speaking. It is my considered opinion, that Megyn is talking, βsetting upβ a talking point, or advertising something; that yβall end up talking for 5 minutes total. Youβre doing the Lordβs work. I just canβt listen anymore.
MK is so outrageous, she comes across like a shitty cartoon villain. The whole lean into revenge as the only punishment that "the left" will understand further underscores this. I could hear the collective eye rolling from TFC.
I always think of Australia and Canada with the eye rolling land acknowledgments. Awesome that our democrats are now doing it. Itβs like they actively DONT want us in the middle to vote for them. Just keep doubling down on the dumb woke shit, or whatever weβre calling it these days.
Despite constantly losing this one thing they are just sticking to. I have to go back to work this week (NYC teacher) and I wouldn't be surprised if this is a thing.
I'm sure there are many such examples of how complicated/nuanced land acknowledgements can be, but I saw this recently on twitter/x and found it interesting:
You could just stop right there. My personal Bulwark LLM can reproduce everything that emerges from The Bulwark, and strangely it fits into 32 KB of RAM and runs fine on an 8088.
And FTR, I like Cracker Barrel... as a place to go when I'm on the road early and want a quick breakfast, but something a little heartier than an egg sandwich. Their breakfasts are 3-i's fine: not spectacular, but fiiine. I've literally never had anything but breakfast food there. Do people go there for anything else?
"Merch is imminent"--things said since 2016 :P

Great stuff, some of it planned, thanks.
"Dumbass fucking witch doctor charlatan" for the win. Damn I hate that idiot and what he's doing to the American healthcare system.
Yabut I agree that kids are pretty fat now.
Last time someone in a presidential administration tried to address that, the very same audience freaked out, so...
Politics as team sports. I loathe politics now for that very reason.
Heaven forfend a child be encouraged to eat a vegetable. No, we need federally subsidized Fritos or we riot.
And that SSRIs, dyes, and well, our food supply, are poison. And that giving babies/ toddlers Hepatitis B and covid vaccines is retarded.
Anyone know if there's a Sirhan Sirhan Jr. floating around?
Well thank goodness they care about it now!

Comment of the week was hilarious! As was the "Dumbass fucking witch doctor charlatan" comment.

My answer to your question - cue up this Billy Joel banger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaA3YZ6QdJU
Getting here late to find you made the comment I had in mind. I tip my hat, Dawg. Great minds, etc.

Do you mean βTrumpomoronic wisdomβ. She is insufferable.
I went to Canada recently and oh boy they sure do love land acknowledgments. It's all over the damn place.

One minor suggestion, if feasible: earmark 2 hours for each episode.
You guys always leave topics on the table that you say you want to talk about, but often wrap it up at 90 or less.
If schedule allows, go for the full 2 hours!
> The Bulwark's

Sonny Bunch (author of said snark) is my Bulwark exception.
