Coming fuller circle: The first journalist to call Luke Ford "the Matt Drudge of porn" was ... my wife, in the Online Journalism Review, probably in 1998.
Kilmeade really took me on a roller coaster ride, one minute we’re going down the “Trump is basically the reincarnation of Teddy Roosevelt” rabbit hole, the next we’re disavowing any and all knowledge of Donald’s shitcoin-related malfeasance. It made me wonder, does he realize how much he undermines his own argument with the handwaving?
I think today it's heterodox not to believe in any obviously false conspiracy theories... IDK, like the one I've seen on offer all over social media over the past 24 hours: otherwise reasonable people working hard to convince themselves that the latest assassination attempt was staged.
What has broken everyone's brain? WTF is going on? Has the whole world gone mad?
I guess it should be gratifying that the left has demonstrated themselves just as susceptible to this crap as the right, but honestly it now seems even worse over there. At this point, I would not be shocked if that soon becomes the dominant left-wing position on this incident.
My liberal friends totally believe all the assassination attempts have been staged. When I say I don't, they look at me like I'm the dummy. BlueAnon = QAnon.
Not to be “that guy” but I’m coming around to the position that nobody believes anything, they think it’s all moves in some game of Chinese checkers they’re playing. It’s rank nihilism by people too stupid to know what “nihilism” means.
My wife and I live in Torrance. Every few weeks there are street corner protests right next to our apartment. Now we're wondering if we ever passed this guy!🫢
"The audience pays for this performance..." Luke Ford has clearly never visited the comment section or Fifth chat where we ruthlessly and often drunkenly berate y'alls ideas and positions. Bang on the guys all you want, Mr Ford, but leave paying subscribers out if it! And also, who is he calling a "drifting libertarian?"
I think there's a really interesting topic you guys could discuss at the FIRE conference. Would you fire an employee who explicitly endorsed political violence? If so, would this be considered "cancel culture", or an appropriate social consequence for a violation of a universal TABOO, and arguably a necessary one to prevent it from becoming normalized?
I have never heard of this Luke Ford person but the segment included here reads like something one of my college professors circa 2015 would have assigned us and after reading it would have left me angrily texting a classmate in all caps, “I know what each word in this thing means but put all together I have no f*cking idea what this person is trying to say.”
I am deeply offended that Reagan/Bush era neocons were left out of the coalition you gentlemen are cynically maintaining with your smug, ironic detachment.
Luke Ford is quite the character. I couldn't make it through his entire essay, but I was impressed that he cited Randall Collins' "Interaction Ritual Chains," a turgid book normally of interest to only a small group of academic sociologists. And I'm guessing he's the only person to have interviewed Savannah Jane, the Deaf Porn Star:
Hope someday that someone loves me enough to write 16,500 words about their surprise that people like me!!! Who needs love letters when you get hate blogged?
I think LF’s problem (though he probably thinks it the solution), is that he orients his worldview around the assumption that everyone is as cynical and calculating as he is.
I had completely forgotten about CQ, I remember looking forward to seeing it and had to travel all the way to Pasadena as the Laemmle's Playhouse theater. Re-Watching the trailer just now I cannot remember liking it or not. Which is odd as it appears to be "Borrowing" heavily from some of my Fav films like "Blow Up", "Breathless", "Laura" and "Shampoo". (Maybe not Shampoo, I just Love it so much) Might need to re watch... But I will assume I didnt care for it hence completely forgotten.
I had the biggest crush on Angela Lindvall after watching CQ back in the day. Great little film. Reminds of the neo-60s records Air was putting out around that time.
Never heard of this Luke Ford fella. He reads like a real miserable fucker.
And he writes, "All of [Matt's success] rests on the premise that careful communication across coalition lines matters." Good for Matt!

His wikipedia tells quite a story:

Am I the only one who could tell by vibe that the Luke Ford piece had the very distinctive style of AI-generated writing.
I checked the first 1000 words with Pangram: https://www.pangram.com/history/7a121891-d28c-448d-b66f-06c50312b4d6

I did, too.

For the record, Grand Funk Railroad’s version of Feelin’ All Right is the best version. Cocker #2, Traffic #3. Unequivocally.
I’ll be doing my “research” on YouTube tonight, but I have a strong feeling you are not wrong.

How did you end up pissing in Luke Ford’s Cheerios every morning while he was growing up?
Wait, don’t answer that… 😂 something something, his mom. 🫡
I agree with Bill, he sure does sound like a miserable person.
Luke and I have always been quite friendly! And will continue to be!
I’m glad to hear that! Why is he jealous of your success then?? 🤔
Was he supposed to be the 4th person on the 5th column or something?

Saw Shampoo for the first time recently, and ... kinda hated it.
HEATHEN!!!! You must be a Joel fan!!!
Everybody in the movie is irritating or loathsome, with the exception of Jack Warner.
