The Batya/White House exchange is genuinely one of the more clarifying moments of the year... because the White House didn't argue the substance. They attacked her relevance. Which is what you do when someone on your own side says something true and you have no factual rebuttal. Rapid Response 47 just confirmed her point by responding like it did. Meanwhile, Welch is right that patriotism intensifies the further your gaze avoids D.C.... America 250 hits differently when you're watching reenactors at Monmouth than when you're watching Vance wait for the Iranians to show up.
Still, despite the "attack", she'll continue support Tump and his populist MAGA bullshit. They know it so they don't have any reason to think twice about how they respond to people like her.
Wow, didn't expect to get a comment of the week. As someone who isn't a dad but plays a somewhat related role to other people's kids throughout much of the year, I appreciate it.
Beverley Sisters/World Cup/US trivia: Joy Beverley, the oldest of the three, married Billy Wright, who captained the England team at the 1950 World Cup (the first time they entered), where they lost 1-0 to the US.
I know Mike Trout. I just went to his golf course. How about I get you a signed ball as a guilt present from a Yankees fan ( I'm obliged to fell guilty even though everyone forgets we don't win anymore)
Matt, how dare you insult Trevor Milton by saying that his mother lobbied for his pardon! It was his defense lawyer, Pam Bondi’s brother, who advocated for him!
Matt, you have to show Moynihan the clip of Uri Gellar (illusionist fraud that Johnny Carson ambushed) saying the Iranians are brainwashing Trump with low frequency Ray guns.
Are we only 2 weeks away from the 250th? After all, it took some colonies 2-3 months before they even heard of the Declaration of Independence. Shouldn’t we celebrate an Augusteenth or Septemberteenth?
Excellent piece. One thing it made me think about more... as did Bill Maher editorial Friday.... how often Americans judge a country on the last 4-8 years while ignoring the previous 250 that built the institutions, norms, incentives, and dysfunctions we're living with today.
We spend so much time arguing over who's driving the car that we rarely examine the road. I took 2min to make a video in my own piece, Eight Years vs. Two Hundred Fifty. It's a different angle, same question: how much of what we're blaming on individuals is actually structural?
I am humble enough to still be nervous posting it to a fifth column crowd because it is the most intelligent research on subset in my opinion... Robert Reich comment section is pretty awesome too but in case you guys are interested....
Happy Father’s Day to the proud GirlDads of TFC (and baby Coen)!!!! My own father is an excellent specimen and I am thankful for that every day.

Billy is such a delight. On👏the👏pod!!!!
I think Billy has been on little sister pod at least twice and not even once on TFC.
I TOLD you Monmouth was awesome and you needed to check it out this summer!

Happy Father’s Day from a long-suffering Angels fan.

I’ll take it. When will you send it? I’ll hold my breath.
I'm in DC now. Have to check when they play away @ the phillies, Nats, or Orioles next.
He's really laid back. Still has a place in Vineland New Jersey, drives a pick up, HS sweetheart wife. Very Cumberland County NJ

I have a tiny hope that Babette Beverly was at least in part a reason for a certain someone's middle name, Mr. M Lee Welch.
Alas!
A nod to Babette's Feast would've been even more impressive, but family names are more important anyway.
i love this!
Here's a link to the Husbands movie, on YouTube.

(I went to internet archive and there's a different movie with the same name...maybe it's also good? watched 5 minutes and, not so much)
Big Papi can do no wrong ... except when it comes to politics. Yuck.
That was the first good thing he's done!
How dare you sir!
