As a long time reader of Reason, watcher of the Independents, and listener of the fifth...I knew how Matt was going to respond to the national service suggestion before I even got to his response. I was not disappointed! Glad to see some things never change :-)

One more +1 to Matt's righteous objections to any kind of draft.

I don't keep track of the Mailbucket frequency, but always glad when they appear. You have so many good commenters. Thank you.

Agree that the TM interview was terrible. Not because you all were bad. He should rest comfortable in knowing that a Senator from the Northeast set the bar so incredibly low that it’s basically impossible to drop beneath.

On the draft, I share Matt’s revulsion towards it. A childhood spent full of stories from a early-70s infantry Officer add to that.

But after some consumption this weekend about how f’d education is in the UK combined with the horseshit pulled by the edu establishment, I’m failing to think of ANY other way to straighten young people out minus military service.

Reg the comment about the korean "armistice" the writer stated "SOP." My first thought is military, but I also work in pharma and SOPs are our bibles. If you happen to see this please describe, but it is only for my amusement. Also Mike about skiing, YES! Solidarity indeed. Working in pharma I am exposed to so many different types of people: Non college manufacturing, engineers, project manages, and SO many nationalities. Some of this is no doubt due to DEI, but in this regard I am appreciative. I have worked with people from Sierra Leone, Egypt, Puerto Rico, Palestine, Morocco, and of course every region in the US. Having a common goal and working VERY hard for it teaches you so much. I think mandatory military or national service should absolutely be encouraged as NON libertarian as that might be.

The discourse around listening versus watching a podcast is funny. I do both. I absolutely love taking you boys in visually from the couch with a nice cup of coffee.
